Swiss Chard

Tips for Care:

Swiss Chard does best in evenly moist soil, though it will tolerate some drying. Water between 1” to 1.5” of water each week, less if it rains.

Harvesting:

Swiss chard can be harvested when the leaves are still young or even after maturation. No matter when they are harvested, use a clean, sharp knife or pair of garden shears and snip the stem below the leaf. Cutting off older leaves helps the plant focus its energy on producing more leaves. Take care not to damage the terminal bud (Figure 1). Doing so will prevent future growth.

Extras

Chard can be eaten raw as a salad or sauteéd like spinach.
