Tips for Care:

Although jalapeño peppers can tolerate some drought, yield is optimal in moist, nutrient-rich soil. As such, they should be watered regularly and often, especially during dry spells. Take care not to over saturate. To test the soil for saturation, stick your finger into the soil approx. 1” deep. If it is dry, you may add water. If it is wet at 1” down, stop watering.

Harvesting:

While most jalapeños you see at grocery stores are green, after extended time on the plant, jalapeños will gradually turn red (Figure 1). The longer ripening process for red jalapeños increases the pepper’s capsicum, making them spicier than their green counterparts.
