Cucumbers

Tips for Care:

Cucumbers are hardy plants and do not require much coddling. Nevertheless, they thrive best in consistently moist soil with about 1” of water a week. For best results and ease of harvesting, train young crops up a trellis.

Harvesting:

Depending on the variety, cucumbers are ready to harvest when they are between 8-12” long. They should feel firm when squeezed gently. Overripe cucumbers will have a yellow hue (Figure 1).

Extras

While unsuited for eating raw, the sweeter flavor of overripe cucumbers makes them perfect for pickle relish.
