Bell Peppers

Tips for Care:

Bell peppers need to be watered regularly and often, but take care not to over saturate. To test the soil for saturation, stick your finger into the soil approx. 1” deep. If it is dry, you may add water. If it is wet at 1” down stop watering.

Bell peppers should be pruned at both early and late season stages.

- Early season pruning: Only done when the plant is at least 1 foot tall. Most pepper plants grow in a ‘Y’ shape with the two strongest branches forming the arms of the Y. Prune away the smaller branches, including suckers.

- Late season pruning: Prune all the plant’s branches except those bearing fruit a couple weeks before the first frost. This focuses the plant’s energy on fruiting.

Harvesting:

Color will vary based on the type of bell pepper and the time of year. Use a sharp knife or shears to snip the plant from the stem. Pulling by hand may cause the branch to break.
